Throwing a cocktail party is a fun time to gather friends, coworkers, and family together. Many of us may procrastinate about the cost and preparation time to put together a cocktail party. Hosting a party doesn't have to cost a fortune. Here are some great ideas on hosting your next cocktail party, while spending little to no money out of your own pocket.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

SERVE WINE IN SMALL GLASSES. If you decide to serve wine at your party, use very small glasses so your guests will not want to trouble you with refilling their glass. Many people will take one small glass, and will not need another one. Using small glasses cuts down on the need to buy a lot of wine. Your guests may even bring wine as a gift to you for hosting the party. Use their gift to save even more money on the cost of wine.

  2. Step 2

MAKE INEXPENSIVE APPETIZERS. Using simple ingredients you can create your own homemade pizza appetizers or Little Smokies baked with dough around them. Both of these options are inexpensive, and will cost less than buying frozen appetizers from the grocery store. You can even make your own bread, top it with cut tomatoes, garlic, and cheese for a gourmet feel.

  3. Step 3

GARDEN VEGETABLES. If you have vegetables or fruits that grow in your backyard, cut these items and use them for your party. Nothing is better than fresh produce. Your guests will be amazed with your green thumb, and you will save money.

  4. Step 4

ASK GUESTS TO BRING SOMETHING. Even though you are hosting the party, it is perfectly natural to ask your guests to bring a few items along. Ask guests to bring wine, dessert, or other items you don't have at home to save money and valuable time going to the store.

  5. Step 5

CANDLES. If you would like to bring a unique party atmosphere, light candles and dim the lights. Your room is automatically transformed to an evening affair.
