Know that a lot of women have been in your shoes despite how uncommon or unique your situation is. Some women are relieved and guilt free after an abortion while others feel they have done wrong. Your feelings are your feelings and you deal with them as they come.

Be around people that support you and not criticize you. There is enough guilt that comes with abortion that you will lay on yourself. Do not go around people that will throw the Bible or their moral lectures at you.

    • 3

Write your thoughts. Whether you regret it or you are happy about it, it's important to deal with your emotions as they are. It's important to clear your mind and empty your thoughts onto something else.

    • 4

Hold nothing back. If you need a few days off work, try and take some days off. If you need a support group, there are some out there. If you need some time alone just to cry it out, there's that option as well. The more someone holds back, the more depressed they will be.

Realize that the first few days (probably even weeks) will be difficult. Aside from learning to live with your choice, your body will be going through a lot of hormonal changes. It's important that you keep this in mind and find the support group you need to get through it.

Tips & Warnings

  • As far as my research has served me, it is rare that women would suffer from any long term effects of abortion. However, there ARE cases of PTSD (or PAS) in some women.

  • If you feel that your emotions or physical effects of abortion are too much to bear, please do contact your physician and/or seek medical attention.
