Football card collecting is a wonderful way to build value in a collection. Football cards have book values. Based on these values you can build your card collection which invests in your future. Over time, some cards gain value, while others can drop depending on the player.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

MAKE DECISIONS. The first step in football card collecting is deciding which player or team you are going to collect. Consider a team or player that you enjoy watching, or that is a star player. Cards of popular players are worth far more money than players that are not well known players.

  2. Step 2

WHAT DO YOU COLLECT. Once you have decided on the player or team you are collecting, you may want to think about if there is a particular type of card you are collecting of the player or team. Do you want to focus on a specific brand of card of the player? You may want to just collect memorabilia cards, rookie cards, or refractors.

  3. Step 3

CHECK BOOK VALUE. It is very important that no matter what you decide to collect that you do not over spend to purchase the cards. Any time you want to buy a card, look the card up on Beckett.com or check a Beckett price guide or football pricing book or magazine. Even though book values have a specific amount of money that they are worth, hardly any card fetches the top book value.

  4. Step 4

PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT. Place your cards in penny sleeves and plastic protectors. These items protect your cards from dirt, dust, or grime. They also make it easier to organize your cards and look at them whenever you need to.
