Things You'll Need:
- Computer with internet connection
- Email account and/or phone
- Pen
- Notebook
-
Step 1
Get a notebook that will be designated as your work from home job search notebook, which will help organize thoughts, ideas and information relative to your work at home job search.
-
Step 2
Identify your skills for a work from home job by writing down your skills (i.e. strong writing skills, photography skills, sales skills, marketing skills, etc.), and experience (i.e. sales experience, telemarketing experience, writing experience, etc.) that you'll want to keep in mind when seeking a legitimate work from home job.
-
Step 3
Brainstorm possible work from home jobs that you could do on a freelancing basis or on your own, like starting a niche blog to earn money by working at home, or by writing articles for sites like eHow.com, Suite101.com or About.com, or earn money by selling stock photos online via a stock photo site.
-
Step 4
Ask friends, family members and fellow stay at home moms who work from home for a legitimate work at home job recommendation. Individuals who have found legitimate work at home jobs are usually very willing to share information about their discovery; if you find a good stay at home job lead, skip to step nine.
-
Step 5
Visit work from home job listings, found on a broad array of websites like WAHM.com for work at home moms, WorkAtHomeCareers.com for people seeking a (part-time or full-time) legitimate work at home job and Monster.com for a broad array of legitimate telecommuting jobs. (See resources section for links)
-
Step 6
Write down a few possible work at home job opportunities that pique your interest and bookmark the web page with the job listing.
-
Step 7
Visit forums for work at home moms and work at home job seekers and ask for feedback on a couple of companies/websites that are offering the work at home jobs. Look out for any negative feedback from fellow forum or discussion board posters, who may have identified the company/site as a work from home scam.
-
Step 8
Perform a basic web search (i.e. company/website name and the term "scam") to find blog entries, forum posts and similar sites discussing the websites/companies offering work from home jobs that you're considering. If a company or website is involved in work from home job scams, then there's a very, very good chance that others will have written about their work from home scam experience in an attempt to warn others.
-
Step 9
Apply for the work from home jobs that appear to be clear of any involvement in scams by submitting a cover letter, resume and work samples, if required.
