Things You'll Need:
- measuring tape
- Lock n Seal laminate flooring
- ban saw
- level
- marker
- cleaning and floor scraping supplies
-
Step 1
First, clean flooring surface completely removing all dirt, debris, thin set, glue etc. until smooth with no raised pieces or bits before you lay your lock n seal laminate.
-
Step 2
Next, take a section of your flooring and start in one corner and begin to lay your floor across the way you want your grain to flow. Usually front door to back of house is ideal to match hallways and make house look longer. Allow a 1/4 inch gap between wall edges and lay piece flat.
-
Step 3
Then hold another section of your lock n seal laminate with the locking edges together and fit together at a 45 degree angle. Press and tap lightly with the open palm of your hand until the two pieces of flooring snap together. You should see a small gap between the flooring pieces initially until you snap together and then it should disappear.
-
Step 4
Continue to lock n seal your strips of laminate until your first row of flooring reaches the opposite wall. Lay your last piece down and it will be too long.
-
Step 5
Next, flip it over and turn it around where the locking edge is now at the wall and place a mark on top of your last piece where the two pieces line up. Cut your lock n seal laminate piece evenly across at that mark and then flip it back over and turn it around and lock your final flooring piece in.
-
Step 6
By holding your locking edge flush to wall to measure it, the lock n seal edge should allow for enough of a gap when turned over and locked into place leaving the quarter inch necessary for expansion.
-
Step 7
Begin your second row of flooring by cutting a piece of your lock n seal in half, saving the other half for the other side, and start laying down and locking your laminate using the same process.
-
Step 8
When you reach the other wall, take the half piece you saved which will still be a little long and mark and cut it to lock into place using the same flip and turn marking technique.
-
Step 9
Continue to lay down each row of your lock n seal laminate varying your cut of your starting flooring piece (some longer and some shorter) to vary the sizes and keep the locking edges from lining up.
