Your electric bill is listed in kilowatt hours (KWH). A KWH is 1000 watts of energy used in one hour. An easy way to remember this is one KWH is the amount of energy it takes to light ten 100 watt light bulbs for one hour.

Below is an estimate of the cost per hour to operate many of the appliances in your house. Not all items run 24 hours per day, but even small appliances running all day can add up to a great deal of money in one month. Electricity cost varies from state to state, but for this estimate 10 cents per KWH is used. To estimate your cost for electricity just divide your total electric bill charge by the number of KWH used. This figure will include all fees, transportation and fuel charges, but all these charges add to your actual cost of electricity.
