How to Treat Large Pores the Natural Way

There are many expensive ways to treat large pores---microdermabrasion, chemical peels and laser resurfacing, just to name a few. But you can improve the appearance of large pores with at-home, natural remedies that will cost you just a few dollars or less. Pores appear enlarged when they are clogged with dead skin cells, dirt and oil. The following at-home treatments will help unclog and minimize your pores.

Instructions

    • 1

Cleanse your face twice a day with a mild, natural soap that does not contain perfumes or dyes. Keeping your face clean is essential to minimizing pore size, as you need to prevent pores from becoming clogged with dirt, dead skin cells and oil.

    • 2

Use baking soda as an exfoliant to remove dead skin cells and reduce the size of pores. Mix two teaspoons of baking soda with water or with your facial cleanser and gently rub the mixture over your face. Use this mixture three or four times a week. Baking soda's crystals are fine, yet hard, and it is acid neutral, so it won't irritate your skin.

    • 3

Avoid harsh astringents or toners. Try a toner of two-thirds apple cider to one-third cold water. Apply it to your face with a cotton ball. Rinse with cold water.

    • 4

Make a pore-tightening mask out of egg whites. Mix two egg whites with the juice of half a lemon. Apply to your face and let it tighten for seven to 10 minutes. Your skin will look rejuvenated and your pores will be smaller and less noticeable.

    • 5

Try a milder skin-tightening mask of one-half cup instant oatmeal with enough milk added to make a paste. Apply to face and wait 20 minutes. Lie back and relax while this mask is on, because it will fall off in gobs if you walk around. Remove at the kitchen sink with warm water. Splash face with cold water to finish off.

For fast, last-minute tightening of pores, rub an ice cube over large pore areas of the skin. Rub quickly so you don't make the skin too red.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid moisturizing large-pore areas, as you will only contribute to oiliness and appearance of large pores.

  • Stop using any skin treatment, natural or not, that irritates your skin.
