Step 1
Stores place items on sale in cycles, usually to prepare for a big celebration or event. Check your favorite stores for gift baskets two weeks before a major event, such as Christmas, back-to-school, Fourth of July, and so on. Prices are usually changed on Wednesdays or Thursdays to prepare for weekend sales. Ask your favorite store manager for upcoming sales dates. Also, ask the manager what day of the week the store changes its prices, so you can be the first to get the baskets you want.

Step 2
Sign up for email alerts from your favorite stores online. Even if they do not have an online portal for purchases, they will usually send you special deals or sales via email to entice you to buy. Purchase a Sunday paper and look through the ads for sales on your favorite gift baskets as well.

Step 3
If you enjoy clearance shopping or stockpiling gifts for the next year, shop your favorite gift-basket stores the day after major holidays to find clearance sales. The day after Christmas is a famous day for purchasing Christmas gift baskets at heavily discounted prices.
Many gift baskets are generic and interchangeable. If you purchase a clearance gift basket and the basket carries a theme that you do not want associated with the gift (such as a Christmas basket on a Mother's Day Gift), simply purchase a simple basket and move the contents to it. If you find a great clearance deal, you may want to stock up on the baskets, even if they are not perfect for your needs. Through subtle changes, you may be able to make a so-so basket perfect.
