How to Make a Chili Pie

Things You'll Need
- 9-inch baking dish
- Soup or stock pot
- Knife
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 onion
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 package onion soup mix
- 1 can kidney beans
- 1 cup water
- 1 jar tomato sauce
- 1 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1/2 tablespoon cumin
- 1/4 tablespoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon tabasco sauce
- 1 bag corn chips
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese

Put soup pot over medium heat and add oil. Chop onion into small pieces and add to pot. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Add ground beef to pot and brown.

Stir in onion soup mix, can of beans, water and tomato sauce. Add chili powder, cumin, pepper and tabasco sauce and stir again.

Bring mixture to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for about 25 minutes. Spread corn chips evenly along bottom of baking dish.

Spoon hot chili over the top of the corn chips. Top with cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses. Scoop out and serve immediately.

Tips & Warnings
You can make a leaner version of this recipe by using ground turkey or chicken instead of ground beef. If you don't want to make your own chili, you can use a can of ready-made chili instead.
