Things You'll Need:
- Flat screwdriver
- Phillips screwdriver, 10mm socket
-
Step 1
Disconnect the negative cable from your Volvo's battery. The negative cable is the black cable going from the negative lead of the battery (marked with a minus sign) to the frame of the vehicle. Remove the battery lead with either a 10mm socket or a Phillips screwdriver.
-
Step 2
Release the removal tabs from either side of the stereo deck. The tabs are found at the outermost edge of the stereo deck, in the lower half, near the dash panel trim. To release, push the tabs inward with a thin key or a flat screwdriver.
-
Step 3
Pull the stereo out from the dashboard. Pulling the tabs with equal force will allow the deck to slide freely away from the dock.
-
Step 4
Unhook the connections at the rear of the stereo by hand. There will be several connecting wire groups including the speaker connections, the power supply and the antenna.
-
Step 5
Connect the wiring groups to the new stereo in the labeled connection points.
-
Step 6
Slide the new stereo system into the slot vacated by the old one.
-
Step 7
Push the deck in until fully seated; a noticeable click will be felt and heard.
-
Step 8
Depress the tabs on either side of the stereo until they click into place.
-
Step 9
Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery. Fit the circular clamp around the battery lead. Tighten the screw with a 10mm socket or a Phillips screwdriver.
-
Step 10
The new deck will require an operation code, usually consisting of four digits. Enter the code using the clock setting controls on the face of the stereo. You must enter the code before operating the stereo.
