How to Remove All AVG Components

AVG is one of the premier free anti-virus programs currently available on the Internet. It boasts a comprehensive virus scanner and also has useful add-ons to protect you from spyware and pop-ups. However, if you have decided to start using another anti-virus software or just have decided that AVG isn't for you, it may be dismaying to learn that there is no uninstall wizard. However, you can still uninstall AVG manually.

• AVG Anti-Virus Software
• Windows XP or Higher

Instructions

1. Close AVG and all of its components. This includes closing the firewall, anti-spyware and anti-virus utilities directly from the system tray. Because AVG can run in the background, you may want to "Ctrl+Alt+Del" to bring up the task manager. If you see any AVG-related tasks, make sure to end the process.

2. Go to the control panel. Once you have made sure all the AVG processes have shut down, go to the control panel and then click on the icon that says "Add or Remove Programs."

3. Select AVG from the list of programs. Then press the "Add/Remove" button to launch the Windows removal wizard. A new window will pop up.

4. Follow the prompts to uninstall the program, and make sure to select "Complete" when asked what type of installation you would like to perform. Once the uninstallation is complete, immediately restart your computer.

5. Check your computer for remnants of the program. Unfortunately, AVG is a persistent program, and some components may remain after the initial installation. If any components launch, close them using the task manager and then repeat steps 2 to 4.
