Acne is a problem many individuals face. It can be embarrassing, reduce self esteem and sometimes can even be physically painful. There are several different kinds of acne one can get, one of which is cystic acne, a form that results in big welting zits. These are large, red bumps under the skin that can be quite painful to touch and often take anywhere from weeks to months to disappear. By treating them early you can help get rid of them more quickly.

Touch the bump gently with your fingertip. If it feels like a solid mass under the skin it's a cystic welt. Turn the hot water on in a sink and let it heat up. Place a clean wash cloth under the water and dampen the wash cloth. Place the warm wash cloth directly on your welt. Hold there for five to ten minutes or until the wash cloth becomes cool. Remove, rinse with more warm water, and then ring out. Place on your welt for another five to ten minutes.

Pour some hydrogen peroxide on a clean cottonball. Hold the cottonball on your welt for three minutes. Repeat three to five times a day. The hydrogen peroxide will penetrate your skin and kill the bacteria under the skin (the welt). This won't happen completely overnight or right away, it will kill a little bit at a time. Splash your face with water after using the hydrogen peroxide.

Dab a little bit of a face mask cream on your welt before going to bed. The agents in the mask will dry out the welt and help reduce the size and redness. If you need instant redness relief squirt some Visine on a cottonball and hold the wet cottonball on your welt. The same agents that help reduce red eyes will take the redness out of your skin.

Go to the dermatologist if your welt doesn't start to go down after a couple weeks or if you have an important event coming up, such as a wedding, graduation or prom. The dermatologist will give you a cortisone shot which will reduce the size of your welt and help it go away within a few days.

Help prevent scarring and speed up healing by dabbing some Vitamin E oil on your welt every morning and night. Vitamin E is extremely good for your skin and a direct application will help the skin fibers to connect and heal more quickly and effectively.

Tip

  • Start treating the welt as soon as you feel it coming on

Tip

  • Don't push on or try to pop the welt.
