How to Cut Gardenias
Gardeners grow gardenias both indoors and out to enjoy the lovely white blossoms and the delightful scent of this plant. Because of the beauty and fragrance of these blossoms, gardeners often want to add them to floral arrangements. Unfortunately, gardenia blossoms grow on the ends of short stems. This means that it is difficult to get a gardenia blossom on a long stem for use in a floral arrangement. For this reason, the typical way to cut and use gardenia blossoms is to cut them off just under the bloom and float them in glass bowls of water. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Trim the gardenia blossoms off the plant using garden shears. If you will be floating the blossoms in a glass bowl, clip the blossoms off just under the blossoms you want to use. If you will be placing the blossoms into a bud vase, trim the blossoms off with as much stem as you can.

2
Fill the glass bowl or the bud vase with cool water.

Tips & Warnings
While it may be tempting to cut longer gardenia stems to create a different floral arrangement with the blossoms, avoid removing this much stem from the gardenia plants because this could severely limit the future blooms of the plant.
