How to Say Thank You for Graduation Gifts

Saying "thank you" for a graduation gift is an essential part of celebrating a graduation. The best way to show your appreciation is to send the giver a note or card expressing your gratefulness. This doesn't take a long time, especially if you buy the cards instead of trying to handcraft each one yourself. Each thank you card should be personalized, but none of them should be too long or flowery.

Instructions

    • 1

Write down the names of every person who gave you a graduation gift. If you don't have everyone's addresses, find out by asking a mutual friend or relative. Write each name, with address, on as many envelopes as needed. Put a stamp on each of the envelopes. Don't seal it yet, because you have to write the thank you card first.

    • 2

Buy blank cards at a department store or card shop. When writing a lot of thank you cards, keep in mind the time it will take for you to write them. Try to buy smaller cards that come in bulk packages of at least 20. On the inside of each card, write the name of the person who gave you a gift, followed by thanks for the specific item that they gave. For example, if they gave you a Target gift card, write: "Thank you very much for the Target gift card, it is so generous of you and I sincerely appreciate your support." Sign your name at the bottom. Personalize each card in this way.

Place each thank you card into its corresponding envelope and seal it tightly. Take a trip to the nearest post office or mail deposit box and drop all of the envelopes in. In a few days, your thank you notes will be received and your appreciation for your graduation gifts will thus be made official.

Tips & Warnings

  • As tempting as it might sound to print out a general thank you message and glue it to each card, try to avoid that. People will appreciate it more if they see your handwriting. Handwriting reveals that you took the time to thank them, just as they took the time to send you a gift.

  • Don't mix up cards and envelopes. Before you put a card into an envelope, make one last check to assure yourself that it matches the name on the address. When sealing the envelopes, make sure you don't just fold the upper flap into the inside of the envelope. This isn't a secure method of sealing an envelope. Watch out for paper cuts from the edges of the envelopes.
