How to Clean a Glass Stove Countertop

Glass top stoves look great, but cleaning a glass top stove can be difficult if it is allowed to collect spilled food. Unlike other stoves, glass top stoves have no place for food to hide inside the burners; everything is right there on the surface of the stove. The trick is to clean a glass top stove as soon as you have made a mess on it and it has cooled down to the point at which you can safely touch it. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Allow the glass top stove to cool. You may clean it while it is warm, but make sure it is cool enough to touch.

    • 2

Spray the Windex or glass top stove cleaner on the glass. Be sure to spray liberally. If there is an area of the stove that is particularly soiled, allow the cleaner to sit on the stove top for one to five minutes before you tackle it.

    • 3

Wet the sponge or cloth with warm water and wring it out until it is damp and not sopping wet.

    • 4

Scrub the glass top stove with the sponge or cloth. Wipe off all of the food that has spilled on the stove. Rinse the sponge or cloth with water as needed.

Spray more Windex or glass top stove cleaner on the stove if the first application is not sufficient.

Tips & Warnings

  • For stuck-on foods, you may carefully scrape the residue off with a razor or a sharp knife.

  • Do not cook on a dirty glass top stove, as the heat will cook the spilled food onto the glass. Clean a glass top stove each time you use it.
