Everyone loves to be tan. But now that people are becoming more aware of the dangers associated with tanning (skin cancer, premature aging), beach chairs are getting traded in for sunless tanning lotions and visits to the spray tan booth. Here are a few tips on getting a safe and healthy tan.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sunless tanning lotion
  1. Step 1

Avoid going out into the sun without sun block. Studies how that no amount of sunlight on your skin is good for your skin. Sure your body uses sunlight to obtain vitamin D, but the second those UV rays hit your skin they start causing irreversible skin damage. The cons of sun exposure for Vitamin D far out weight the pros. There is no such thing as "safe tanning" under the sun's rays. Get your recommend daily dose of vitamin D from diet supplements instead.

  2. Step 2

Use a store bought sunless tanning bronzer. These lotions are perfectly safe for you skin and look just as good as the real thing. Tan sprays and lotions come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and can be found at your local pharmacy or grocery store.

  3. Step 3

Avoid washing your skin for at least 8 hours after using any kind of self tanning lotion. After a spray tan it takes time for the colorant to completely soak into your skin.
