Learn how to permanently protect your computer from annoying viruses.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You'll Need:

  • an internet connection
  1. Step 1

In this article, you're going to learn how to how to protect your computer from annoying, menacing viruses that can wreak havoc on your computer, make it sluggish, steal your bandwidth, and personal information. The list goes on and on.

  2. Step 2

The first thing you'll want to do, is download the free Avast anti-virus software at download.com. Then follow the instructions to do the full virus scan on your computer. After that, the software will always automatically scan, and update its virus database in real time. This means you'll always be constantly protected from existing computer viruses that may be lurking, along with any future viruses.

  3. Step 3

Next, download malwarebytes anti-malware program from download.com. This is an excellent program to use along with Avast because in my experience, it has picked up things that Avast has failed to . So this program is a definite "must use" program. Malwarebytes is free, but you'll always have to do manual scanning in order to detect the viruses unless you pay $30 to upgrade to the automatic real time detection. But Avast does that for free. That's why I recommend using them both together. If you ever run into a virus that Avast does not pick up, run malwarebytes, and it will find it and get rid of it. Malwarebytes is excellent at detecting all types of viruses that you would otherwise not be aware you had.

  4. Step 4

Finally, avoid going to illegal movie download sites, and things of that nature. They almost always have malicious viruses on their websites just waiting for you to visit, so they can try and download themselves on your computer. Your anti-virus program will usually stop them, but it's always better to be safe, just in case.
