How to Remove an Emtek Deadbolt

In order to replace or re-key a deadbolt, you will need to remove the old hardware. Lock replacement may seem like an intimidating task, but if you try it you'll find that the process is very straightforward. If you have an Emtek deadbolt or lock that you want to replace or have re-keyed, consider doing the installation and removal yourself.   1. Removing an Emtek Deadbolt

    • 1

      Approach the deadbolt from the inside of the door. Identify the thumb-turn latch and locate the two mounting screws on each side of the thumb-turn.

      Unscrew the two mounting screws with your Phillips-head screw driver. Set the screws aside on the towel.

      Remove both halves of the deadbolt cylinder, one from each side of the door. Set the two parts of the cylinder aside on your towel. The lock may have some greasy residue after years of use, so place the pieces on the towel to minimize staining your floor.

      Approach the door now from the side. Locate the lock latch and the two Phillips-head screws that hold it in place.

      Unscrew the two latch screws with your Phillips-head screwdriver. Set the screws aside and gently slide the latch out of the door. Place all pieces on the towel.

      Re-key your deadbolt if desired, or dispose of it if you plan on replacing the hardware.
