If you are working in the garden or around your yard, a wheelbarrow is a big help and huge time saver. Not only can it carry heavy loads of sod or compost, but you can easily move them from place to place with little work on your part. Pushing a wheelbarrow is not difficult, as long as you are of average strength and have no back problems or problems walking.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wheelbarrow
  1. Step 1

Fill your wheelbarrow with whatever you need to move from one spot to another. If you fill it with potted plants, make sure they won't tip over. Be sure not to fill your wheelbarrow too full. If it is too heavy it will be difficult to push and may fall over.

  2. Step 2

Wrap your hands around the wheelbarrow handles and lift. Make sure you can lift it up easily. If it is too heavy to lift, remove some of the items in the wheelbarrow until you can lift it.

  3. Step 3

Push forward on the wheelbarrow slowly. Be sure you have a good grip on the handles. If your wheelbarrow has one wheel you need to balance it. Balance the wheelbarrow by keeping equal weight on both arms. Do not push it too fast or it will fall over.

  4. Step 4

Set down the wheelbarrow if it gets wobbly or too heavy. Take as many breaks as you need.

  5. Step 5

Continue pushing the wheelbarrow until you reach your destination.

Tips & Warnings
  • Consider a folding wheelbarrow if a metal or plastic one is too bulky. (See References.)
  • Lift with your legs when lifting the handles of the wheelbarrow. This takes the stress off your back.
