Replacing the power-steering pump on your Hyundai Santa Fe is not a difficult job. You will need some basic tools and a place to work comfortably. The power-steering pump is what allows you to steer your Santa Fe without much effort. When the power-steering pump goes out on your Santa Fe you are going to have to replace the pump.

Step 1

Remove the nut on the pulley that the belt is wrapped around, using a pair of pliers. Pull the belt off the pulley and away from the pump.

Step 2

Place the drain container under the pump. Loosen the nut at the bottom of the pump that is securing the hose to the pump. Pull the hose down and away from the pump, allowing the power-steering fluid to drain into the drain container.

Step 3

Using a ratchet set, remove the bolts that are connecting the pump to the fire wall. The bolts will be behind the pump. Pull the pump out of the engine compartment.

Step 4

Place the new power-steering pump into the same place that was occupied by the old pump; line up the securing holes on the new pump with the securing holes on the firewall. Insert the securing bolt into the holes and tighten the bolts with the ratchet set.

Step 5

Place the belt back onto the pulley. Tighten the nut on the pulley with the pliers to secure the belt in place on the pulley.

Step 6

Pour new power-steering fluid into the new power-steering pump according to the directions on the fluid bottle. Turn on the Hyundai Santa Fe engine and turn the steering wheel to the left and right for one or two minutes to get the new fluid circulated.
