Things You'll Need:
- Tools
- Bucket
-
Step 1
Put your tools in a bucket to bring with you to the store. Include only the tools you'll need to carry in your tool bag. Taking your tools with you to the store is the only way to be sure that the tool bag you purchase will serve your needs.
-
Step 2
Narrow the selection down by your work environment. If you ever work in the rain or wet conditions, a leather bag won't do. If you work outside, you'll likely want a hardened plastic bottom in case you have to set your bag down in the mud or on damp ground.
-
Step 3
Look for double stitching. Tool bag seams need to be durable. Multiple stitches will ensure that you'll be able to use your bag daily without worrying about rips or wear.
-
Step 4
Organize your tools in the bag. Make sure there are adequate pockets and dividers to fill diverse needs. There should still be room, maybe even a full pocket, for screws, nails and other transitory items that will only be in your bag until you use them.
-
Step 5
Pick a bag that meets your accessibility needs. There are two kinds of access to consider, entry for you and entry for others. For yourself, you'll want to consider whether you want a solid frame or a soft bag. A solid frame has the advantage of staying rigid and open when you need constant and reliable access to your tools, but it may not be as easy to throw around as a soft bag. As for access to others, consider a bag that can be padlocked, particularly if you're working in a busy public space.
