Instructions

1
Measure the space where you are going to put the fabric wall partition.
-
2
Purchase bi-fold closet doors that have the slats to make your portable walls. Find some at a yard sale to save a lot of money. Make sure you have enough doors to cover your space.
-
-
3
Use a drummel tool with a saw attachment to cut out the slats. Cut carefully, right up to the frame of the door. Throw away the slats.
-
4
Drill a half-inch hole on the insides of the doors where the slats used to be. Make sure to drill two holes at the top and two holes at the bottom of each door about one inch away from the top or bottom of the door frame.
-
5
Remove one of the long sides of the frame of each door panel and set aside.
-
6
Measure the opening of the door where the slats used to be. Add five inches to the length and about ten inches to the width to allow for seam allowances and gathering.
-
7
Cut your fabric to the finished measurements in Step 6. Make sure you use heavy fabric that is not see-through, which would defeat the purpose of putting up a fabric partition.
-
8
Fold under the raw edges of each end of the fabric two inches. Use pins to hold the fold in place. Sew all the way across the top and bottom seams to make casings for the dowels.
-
9
Cut the dowels three-quarters of an inch longer than the opening in the frame. Cut two for each door panel. Insert the dowel into the casings of the fabric.
-
10
Place a drop of wood glue into each of the drill holes. Insert one end of each dowel into one side of the door frame. Add the removed side of the frame lining up the dowel and the drill holes. Allow the glue to dry to completely. Use hinges to attach multiple door frames depending on the size of your space.
