Things You'll Need:
- Halo mapping tool
-
Step 1
Download and install the Halo mapping tool, which can be found at http://halo2.filefront.com/file/Halo_Mapping_Tools_Version_35;37863.
-
Step 2
Create a pack-up of the Halo Maps folder. The Halo mapping tool allows you to change the assets in individual maps. However, you'll want to preserve the game's original settings. The Maps folder can be under "Program Files," then "Microsoft," then "Halo." Copy all of the files into a folder of your creation, with a name like "Backup."
-
Step 3
Open a map inside of the Halo mapping tool. Once the program is open, go to "File," "Open" and then through the folder tree ("Program Files," then "Microsoft," then "Halo"). Select a map in the Maps folder to open.
-
Step 4
Select one of the items from your resources. The Halo mapping tool is laid out with the available resources on the left and the attributes and possible modifications on the right. For example, you will find "weapons," then "pistol," on the left. The pistol is a resource.
-
Step 5
Alter the resource's attributes on the right side of the Halo mapping tool window. In the case of our pistol, one of the attributes is zoom. Make the zoom value higher and you'll find yourself with a sniper pistol next time you play that map. Use guns you already know to tweak assets in a predictable way. For example, find the sniper rifle in resources, check the zoom value, then plug that number into the pistol.
-
Step 6
Check the mod community for custom game types or create your own. One of the greatest advantages of the Halo mapping tool is the ability to create entirely new rules for a level: eliminating certain weapons, adding vehicles or lowering gravity so people can jump farther. The possibilities are vast.
-
Step 7
Host your own multiplayer game. Modded material cannot be played in just any multiplayer game. For example, you can't tweak your assault rifle to fire rockets then destroy everyone in a round. Instead, you must host a game using your custom map. Everyone will then have the attributes you have set.
