Send out invitations to invite guests formally to a party. Invitations serve as a visual reminder of an event. Mailing out invitations provides information to guests. Guests need to know where and when the party is, what to bring, attire and duration. Make invitations at home out of card stock or invitation kits or buy premade invitations. Buy invitation materials at craft stores, party supply stores and party supply aisles at department stores.

Things You'll Need:

  • List of addresses
  • Invitations
  • Envelopes
  • Pen
  • Stamps
  • Paper
  1. Step 1

Make a list of everyone you're inviting.

  2. Step 2

Collect addresses of the guests. Get addresses from address books, friends and the phone book.

  3. Step 3

Fill out the invitations. Include day, date, time, location, RSVP information and any other information, like gift guidelines.

  4. Step 4

Put an invitation in each envelope. Put your address in the upper left hand corner and the guest's address in the lower center. If the party is for adults only, specify by just listing the adults. Include children by saying family.

  5. Step 5

Seal the envelopes. Put a stamp in the upper right hand corner.

  6. Step 6

Put the invitations in a mailbox or drop off at the post office at least three weeks before the event. If it is a wedding or there will be out-of-town guests, send out the invitations six to eight weeks in advance.
