How to Replace a Cabin Filter on a Honda Element
Cabin air filters prevent pollutants and allergens from entering the passenger cab of the vehicle. The Honda Element features two cabin air filters that sit side by side. Depending on the type of area you live and drive in, replacing these filters every 25,000 miles or so will optimize the quality of air inside the vehicle. Most people do not realize that the air inside the cab of a vehicle can be up to six times more contaminated than the air outside. The cabin air filters prevent many of these pollutants and allergens from entering the cab.

1
Open the glove box and remove the contents. Set them aside.
-
2
Push each side of the glove box inward to release the upper stops from their retainer tracks. This will allow the glove box to drop downward. Removing the glove box completely is not necessary.
-
-
3
Locate the cabin air filter access door. Press the retainer clip on the left hand side inward to release the access door and then remove it. Set it aside.
-
4
Locate the cabin air filter tray tabs on the right hand side of the filter access panel. Pull the left side tab outward first. The tray containing the left filter removes by pulling straight out, but will need some wiggling to convince it out of position.
-
5
Grab the right-hand tray tab and slide it to the left until the tray is sitting in the left cabin air filter position and then pull it outward as you did the first filter.
-
6
Remove the two old cabin air filters and then insert the new replacement filters into the trays. Be sure the air direction for the filters is pointing downward. This can be determined by the arrow indicators stamped on the sides of the cabin air filters.
-
7
Insert the right-hand side filter and tray assembly first and then slide it over to the right. Insert the left-hand side filter last. Replace the cabin air filter access door.
-
8
Lift the glove box upward and push in on each side to align the stops properly into the retaining track. Open and close the glove box to ensure it's properly seated. Return the contents to the glove box.
