How to Cut a Free Real Tone Ringtone

Tired of having to constantly buy ringtones? Maybe something new comes out or you get tired of hearing what you already have, or, even worse, the ringtone expires. But there is a way to avoid ever having to purchase ringtones again. You can create your own high-quality ringtones free of charge.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the free mpTrim editing software to cut the song you want into a ringtone (see Resources).

    • 2

Install the software. When the download link opens, click on the "Run" action if you want to use the program just this one time. If you want to store the program to your hard drive, click "Save." Unzip the file and click on the subfolder within the mpTrim folder. The program opens automatically.

    • 3

Load the song of your choice into the mpTrim program. Click the "Open" tab at the top of the program's screen to locate and attach the song. The song transfers to mpTrim for cutting and editing.

    • 4

Cut the song how you want it. Using the two sets of up and down arrows in the middle of the application, position the song where you want your ringtone to begin and end. Click on the "Play" button to the right of the arrows to review your edits. The upper "Play" button allows you to hear the first 5 seconds of the beginning of the ringtone and the bottom arrow plays back the last 5 seconds of the full ringtone.

    • 5

Save the ringtone. Click "Save As" at the top of the screen, name the ringtone file and choose where you want to store it.

Tips & Warnings

  • You need a Zip file program to extract the mpTrim software so it can be accessible on your computer. If you do not have a Zip file extractor, see Resources to obtain one.

  • To avoid overwriting the full song, do not click the "Save!" action at the top of the screen. This action deletes the full song and replaces it with the new ringtone. Keep ringtones under 25 seconds. Anything longer takes up a lot of storage space on a cell phone.
