How to Twist Your Natural Hair
If you prefer your hair's natural texture to having it chemically straightened, you can twist it into a basic two-strand style that lends itself to easy maintenance and a variety of styling options. Twists can last up to 2 weeks with minimal care. Once you have the basic set of twists in place, you can play with your twist style from week to week by changing the size of your twists and your hair's part. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Divide hair into four equal sections using the wide tooth comb. Use the hair clips to hold hair that you're not currently working on out of the way.
-
2
Begin at the back of your head, and use the comb to part off a section of hair in about one inch squares.
-
-
3
Apply a dime size amount of lightweight gel or other holding agent to this section, and comb it through or work it in with your fingers.
-
4
Divide the hair section in two, and twist the two strands around one another all the way to the ends. You may twist overhand or underhand, depending on which feels more comfortable.
-
5
Repeat the twisting process over the entire head.

Tips & Warnings
Natural hair can usually hold itself in place without unraveling, but use barrettes, covered elastics or snap-free rubber bands to secure it. Cover your twists at night with a silk or satin bonnet to preserve the style without crushing it. Spritz twists with water or a natural oil/water mixture to fluff them up. Twist wet or dry hair; experiment to see which works better for the style of twists you want.
