How to Cut Nylon Rope

Nylon rope is one of the strongest types of rope available. It is also a difficult rope to cut. The difficulties do not stem from the strength of the rope, however, but from how it tends to fall apart at the ends when it is cut. When the ends become stringy and start to untwist, it often affects the entire rope. It is possible to cut nylon rope without the untwisting problems and keep the high quality of the rope.

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap tape around the area of the rope you want to cut. Put at least two layers of tape on the rope, as one layer may come off when it is cut.

    • 2

Cut the rope in the middle of the tape. When you cut the rope in the middle of the tape, the strands of the rope won't fall apart.

    • 3

Burn the end of the rope with matches or a lighter to melt the strands of the rope together.

    • 4

Remove the tape from the end of the rope to finish the process.
