How to Make a Bibliography Online

If you are a student working in the 11th hour on your term paper, the last thing you want to worry about is a bibliography. This page, which contains information about all the sources contained in your paper, has to be perfectly formatted (generally in MLA or APA) format. Luckily, making your bibliography with the help of online tools can streamline the process.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather all of your resources. This means books, films you watched, websites you read and journal articles. Anything you used to research the paper or gather data will need to be put in your bibliography. Once you have compiled your sources, it's time to go online.

    • 2

Go to a bibliography building website such as BibMe. BibMe is one of the most popular bibliography building websites and is free to use. It also uses an automated fill system to help students find obscure information (such as publish date and co-authoring details) without user input. BibMe also supports both major academic styles (MLA and APA), as well as newsroom styles (Chicago and Turabian.)

    • 3

Pick your source media. Once BibMe has loaded, use the navigation bar at the top to select your first source. You can choose from a book, magazine, newspaper, magazine, journal, website, film or live source.

    • 4

Enter pertinent information. Depending on what media you are entering, you will need to provide links, an ISBN number or article title. Once you have entered some basic information, you can search the BibMe database to find all the relevant information automatically. So, for instance, if you have an article from a magazine about commercial psychology titled "Ad Society," you can enter the article title, search for it using BibMe, and the author, publication, publication date and issue number will be located for you automatically.

    • 5

Fill in additional information. If there is any missing information, such as page number, or in the case of websites, access date, you will need to enter it. Then click on the Submit button at the bottom of the page to create your citation.

    • 6

Select your style. Once the citation has been added, it automatically will be in MLA format. If you need another format, choose Chicago or Turabian from the drop-down menu and the citation will be put in that format.

    • 7

Repeat steps 3 through 6 for every piece of source material. When you are finished, click on the download button to download your bibliography as a rich-text file, which is compatible with Word Pad, Microsoft Word and Open Office.
