How to Make a Teacher Web Page

Because our students are computer savvy, we can get them more involved in class by providing them online information and tools that extend beyond the classroom. One of the best ways for teachers to keep their students involved in class and informed about class activities, schedules, and assignments is to have a web page readily available.

Instructions

    • 1

Provide an image of yourself so that visitors to your site can see who you are; it's always nice to put a face with a name. Your picture should look professional, so wear your best clothes. The image can display anywhere on your page, but it should be one of the first things your users see.

    • 2

Create a list of links that lead users to helpful resources on the web or on your school's site. Because you are only building a page and not a whole site, you can place anchored links to certain areas of your page. These links will typically display on the left side of your page.

    • 3

Write content for your page in the form of biographical information, including your educational background, where you teach, and what grade (this is more for visitors outside of your school, but it's always nice to introduce yourself and establish your credibility). List class information, which will include activities, scheduling, and homework assignments. Provide contact information so that parents can reach you.

    • 4

Add a feedback form at the right or the bottom of your page so that users can send you feedback about your page and its content. This helps to facilitate usability of your page and to build a good rapport with parents and other educators.

Tips & Warnings

  • For site hosting, you might try webs.com, which provides free hosting and an easy-to-use interface.

  • For the type of feedback you'll be getting, you could just place an email form on your site, using the "mailto:" action.

  • Keep your fonts professional and web-friendly by using Georgia or Verdana.

  • Always keep your page updated, and provide the date of each update somewhere on your page.
