Understanding the stock market is essential before investing any money into it. If you do not understand the stock market, you should not risk any money by investing.

  1. Step 1

    Read books. There are literally thousands of books readily available for the beginning investor to read. Stock market books are a great way to get a general grasp on the stock market. These books are typically written by stock market pros and they put they vast knowledge into layman terms so that it is easy to understand and utilize.

  2. Step 2

    Seek advice from a professional. Many financial investment companies have training seminars to teach beginner investors the stock market basics. These seminars are usually held on the weekend and do not cost a lot to attend. The knowledge you will gain from these classes will definitely offset the initial cost.

  3. Step 3

    Practice investing in the stock market. Many websites will enable you to "invest" in the stock market with play money. This is a great way to learn the basics of buying and selling. You will usually be given a set amount to invest with. You can invest in any stock, mutual fund or any other investment you wish to invest in. The portfolio acts like a real stock portfolio with real money. You can learn the basics of stock trading without risking any real money.
