How to Make an Herbal Salve with Beeswax: Recipe

Herbal salve is used externally on the skin for a variety of reasons including moisturizing, first aid and massage. You can make an herbal salve at home using herb infused oil and beeswax. Herbal salve should be refrigerated between uses.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Warm 1 cup of herbal infused oil in a sauce pan over low heat. For more information on infusing oil with herbs, see the resource section below.

  2. Step 2

After the cup of oil is warmed, add 1/4 cup of beeswax. Stir continually until the beeswax melts into the oil. Remove the oil from the heat.

  3. Step 3

Cool the herbal salve in the refrigerator. You will find that herbal salve is much stiffer when cooled to the temperature in the refrigerator than cooled to room temperature. Because herbal salve must be stored in the refrigerator, you will want to test the consistency at refrigerator temperature. If it is too thick, you can warm the salve again and add a little more oil. If it is too thin, you can add a little more beeswax.

  4. Step 4

Document the amount of beeswax used to bring the herbal oil to the consistency you prefer to have on hand the next time you prepare herbal salve.
