Close a Chase Checking Account

Chase Manhattan Bank is a worldwide institution with branches in most major cities. You can make withdrawals, deposits or close and open new accounts at any branch. You can close checking accounts over the phone or in person.

Instructions

    • 1

Plan for what you will do with your money when you close your account. If you want to receive your account balance in cash, you will need to go in person to a Chase branch to close your account. If you are transferring your account to another bank, Chase will need the new account information to make the transfer.

    • 2

Locate your checking account number and information. You will need these to close your account.

    • 3

Visit a Chase branch and ask to speak to a customer service representative. If you are not making a cash withdrawal from your account balance, you can call Chase customer service at 1-800-935-9935 (for TTD/TTY calls--calls equipped with text devices for the deaf and hard of hearing--call 1-800-CHASETD or 1-800-242-7383) to close your account.

    • 4

Tell the customer service representative that you wish to close your account. Have all of the details of your account and any account(s) you are transferring funds to at hand.

    • 5

Ask for a final transaction statement for the account you are closing.
