How to Save a Jade Plant

According to Chinese myth, jade plants are a symbol of prosperity. Aside from any luck they may bring, jade plants are beautiful and usually hardy. A healthy drink of water can restore most withered jade plants to robustness, but sometimes the problem goes deeper. Overwatering can kill your plant if the rot it causes is not treated.   • Sharp, sterile knife
  • Powdered plant fungicide
  • Fresh potting soil

  1. How to Save a Jade Plant

    • 1

      Cut away the soft, mushy branches, making sure you remove any brown spots on the main stem.

      Sprinkle the cut places with the fungicide powder.

    • 3

      Overturn the pot gently, remove the plant and check the roots. If they are also limp and too wet, trim off the unhealthiest ones.

      Re-pot the jade plant in the fresh potting soil.

    • 5

      Water the jade once a week for the first month, and then only once a month from then on.

Tips & Warnings

  • Let the soil dry completely between waterings.

  • Make sure your knife does not touch the diseased part of the plant or you will spread the rot to the healthy parts.
