How to Tell the Size of a VW Engine
Determining the size and type of engine in your Volkswagen can be helpful for a number of reasons, especially during car maintenance. It can save you and your auto mechanic time when you go in for an oil change or tune-up and he asks what type of engine your car has. If you'd rather save money by performing general maintenance on a Volkswagen yourself, you'll need to know what type of engine is under the hood.

1
Open your hood and look for any numbers on or near the engine block. Most Volkswagens have the size, such as 2.0 liters, written on the top of the engine. Sometimes the engine size is engraved directly in the engine or on the cover of the engine.

2
Read the owner's manual. If the engine size is not written anywhere in the engine bay, use your owner's manual to determine engine size. The manual lists all the specifications of your vehicle.

Write down your VIN number. If you don't have the owner's manual for your vehicle write down the VIN number, located inside the car at the base of the windshield.
-
4
Call your local Volkswagen dealership and tell them you'd like to know the engine size. Give them the VIN number. The dealership will be able to read the VIN and tell you the engine size.
