Setting up a simple above-ground pool is an ideal way to relax and cool off on hot summer days. It is, however, important that the pool be installed properly and on level ground, or it will be anything but relaxing. If your above-ground pool is not sitting on level ground, the walls will collapse, leaving your yard flooded with gallons of water. Learn to level the ground and set up your simple pool, and you will soon be relaxing in your pool.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wheelbarrow
  • Playground sand
  • Rake
  • Shovel
  • 2-by-4
  • Level
  • Tamper
  • Above-ground Simple Pool
  • Pool instructions
  • Ground cover
  • Hand pump
  • Water hose
  1. Step 1

Find an area to set up your above-ground simple that is free of sticks, rocks and tree roots.

  2. Step 2

Unload playground sand with the wheelbarrow, and spread the sand out as evenly and as level as you can using a rake and shovel. Fill in any low spots, and remove any high spots of sand.

  3. Step 3

Place your level on top of the 2x4 on the pool site. This step may require two people: one to hold the 2x4 in the middle of the site and the other person to get on his knees outside the pool's circumference to slide the 2x4 around the pool to level the surface in the motion of a big hand on a watch. Spray the area with water until it is damp. Use the tamper to tamp and level the surface. Allow the surface to dry, and check the site with the level to ensure the ground is now even.

  4. Step 4

Unpack above-ground simple pool from the box, and check the contents and pool instructions.

  5. Step 5

Lay out, if available, the ground cover on level ground. Some pools come with a ground cover to help protect the pool's surface from being punctured by rocks, sticks, or tree roots.

  6. Step 6

Unfold and lay out your simple pool over the ground cover if available. If you do not have a ground cover, lay out your simple pool evenly on the ground, making sure there are no rocks, sticks or roots underneath. Remove all wrinkles from the pool's floor by getting on your hands and knees and pulling out the wrinkles from the middle of the pool to the sides of the pool.

  7. Step 7

Inflate the pool's air chambers with a hand air pump if available. If you do not have a hand pump, inflate the air chambers by mouth.

  8. Step 8

Place a water hose in the simple pool, and fill it with water per your pool's instructions.

Tips & Warnings
  • Your simple pool should have come with a pool repair kit. Make sure to have it ready to repair small holes in your pool.
  • Never leave children unattended while in or around your simple pool. Designate a responsible adult to keep watch.
