Granite is a robust, highly resilient mineral material that serves well when used for washbasins, sinks and bathtubs. There are a few important maintenance requirements for keeping your granite surfaces appealing so that their beauty lasts a lifetime. Does this Spark an idea?

Regular Cleaning and Maintenance
-
1
Keep a clean, soft towel next to the sink or tub fixture and instruct all family members to rinse the fixture well with warm water after use, using the towel to dry off any water from the surface. Change the towel twice a week and wash it to prevent bacterial or fungal buildup. Keep the maintenance towel separate from the hand-drying towels in the bathroom, using it only for wiping down your granite surface. This will help you greatly in maintaining the beauty of your granite fixture.

2
Apply a small drop of dishwashing soap to a soft washcloth and bathe the entire fixture in warm water at least once a week, scrubbing the entire surface gently. Rinse the soap out of the cloth and use it to wipe off the soap and water completely.

Remove any stains or mineral buildup immediately as they appear to prevent them from discoloring the granite's finish. Apply a good cleaner that contains oxalic acid to the stain and scrub lightly with a nylon brush until it has been weakened. Flush the area with plenty of warm water and dry immediately.

Tips & Warnings
Never use any acidic household cleaners on a granite surface as they will etch off the sealant and may cause permanent stains. Always rinse the granite surface immediately with warm water if it has come into contact with anything acidic, including vinegar, cola sodas, citrus juice or any other fruit juice. Never apply bleach to a granite surface, as it will permanently stain the finish.
