How to Fold a Church Wedding Program

Designing, printing, and assembling your own wedding programs is a simple way to cut down on wedding costs. One budget-friendly option is to design them from scratch using heavy cardstock paper, translucent vellum paper, and a little ribbon for decoration. These simple instructions will guide in folding and assembling your own home-printed, bi-fold wedding programs with an outer layer of card stock and an inner layer of vellum.

  1. How to Fold a Church Wedding Program

    • 1

Make sure that your cardstock and vellum are the same size. Some vellum might need to be trimmed before folding and assembling the programs to make sure that the edges meet and there is no overlapping between the inner and outer layer.

    • 2

Double check the printed text on the two layers. The outer layer of cardstock should contain the cover information and back text. The piece of vellum, the inner layer, should be printed with the ceremony details, names or other program information.

    • 3

Take your scrapbooking scoring tool, if desired, and score each layer of paper down the middle. If you have printed your information in landscape format, you'll score the paper with the 11-inch long edges of the paper along the top and bottom. However, if the text is printed in portrait orientation, you will score the paper down the middle with the 8.5-inch edges along the top and bottom.

    • 4

Fold each layer of paper along the score to create a defined crease down the middle. Reopen the papers and arrange the two layers, one on top of the other, as follows: the card stock on the bottom with the cover and back text facing down and the vellum on top with the ceremony details facing up. Make sure that the two papers are turned the same way, not one upside down and one right side up.

    • 5

Fold the two layers in half together, this time with the card stock outside and the vellum layer inside. Using the hole punch, punch two holes through both layers along the center fold of the program, roughly 1.5 inches from the edge.

    • 6

Thread the piece of ribbon through the two holes and tie and bow along the outside centerfold to hold the two layers together. Trim the ends of the ribbon at an angle. You now have one folded program!

Tips & Warnings

  • You can eliminate the need for measuring and using the scoring tool by just folding the paper in half and pressing firmly along the fold. Just make sure you don't press down until you're sure of the fold since there's no going back once a crease is made. Use the first piece of ribbon you tie and cut as a measurement for the rest of ribbon pieces, instead of having to measure separately for each ribbon cut.
