How to Create a Calendar for First Grade Literacy
Creating a calendar for first-grade literacy isn't difficult and can be rewarding for your child. The goal of a literacy calendar is to help organize fun and interactive learning activities. Literacy calendars also help to promote early literacy and get your child prepared for school. Literacy calendars can include new ideas for snacks, creative holiday projects and outdoor activities.

Purchase an over-sized calendar. Place it on a desktop or secure it to the wall. Make sure it's roughly 2 feet by 3 feet so your child can clearly see the words and colors.

Create a seasonally appropriate plan each month. Seek to fill out at least three blocks or days each week with an activity or game. Use the extra space at the top or bottom of the calendar to write your own objectives or tips for the development of your first-grade child. Include assignments he will complete on his own, such as organizing his room.

Research age-appropriate interactive educational sessions. Visit a teacher's store for ideas or speak to your child's teacher. Visit ReadingRockets.com, which is a website provided by the U.S. Department of Education, that has ideas for reading activities.

Balance out the week to include "fun days," such as an adventure or cooking session your child will participate in that day. Paste a special picture on the calender each month. make time for a scrapbook day at the end of each month. Include items from nature such as leaves.

Use the "Notes" space at the bottom of the calender to list the books you intend your first-grader to read that month. Include in this area cookie recipes or other instructions for fun things to do.
