From your computer, access the New York State Online Permit Assistance and Licensing (OPAL) office at www.nys-permits.org.

On the OPAL homepage, click on the link labeled "Click here to start," which takes you to a list of permits/licenses in New York State, arranged alphabetically by business type.

You will then be directed to answer a series of questions specific to your business. Take your time to be sure that you answer each question correctly. After you have answered all of the required questions, the website will process this information, providing you with a synopsis of all of the licenses and permits required to operate your business. On the bottom of this page, you will be given the option to print the required applications, request the applications be mailed or to apply online.

When choosing to apply online, you will be directed to an online form to complete that will ask for information relative to your business ranging from general information, like your company's name and address, to specific information about the goods and services you provide.

After completing the online licensing form, enter your credit card information to complete the transaction by paying the appropriate fees. You should receive an OPAL identification number if your application was submitted successfully. If you do not receive an identification number, contact OPAL at (800) 342-3464.
