It requires a little research, but the result can be a delicious, points-conscious meal you can enjoy over and over again. Weight Watchers points are based on the caloric, fat, and fiber amounts in a specific food. Knowing the amounts of these components in each of your recipe ingredients will allow you to calculate the total number of points for your Weight Watchers dish.

Make a list of the ingredients contained in your recipe. Remember to include the amount of each ingredient you will be using, such as 1 cup or 3 ounces.

Use the nutrition guide to calculate the calorie, fat, and fiber amounts for each ingredient. Be sure to multiply the component amounts as needed to find the total calories, fat and fiber for each ingredient you will use. For example, if the nutrition guide lists the calorie, fat and fiber amounts in 1 cup of milk, and you will be using 3 cups of milk, multiply each component by 3.

Enter the calorie, fat and fiber amounts for each ingredient into the Weight Watchers points calculator, which you can find at weight-watchers-points.com. This will give you the Weight Watchers points value for each ingredient.

Add up the point values for all of the ingredients in your recipe. This will give you the total number of Weight Watchers points in your recipe.

If you can't find in the nutrition guide the exact ingredient you will be using for your recipe, try using as similar an ingredient as you can find to approximate the calorie, fat, and fiber amounts. For example, use fat-free Mozzarella cheese as an approximation for fat-free Swiss cheese.
