New home construction often features cabinets with no hardware, and some cabinets in older homes were designed to be hardware-free. Installing knobs on cabinets is a fairly simple process if you have the right tools for the job. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Determine where you want to place the knob. Try to leave a one-inch gap between the knob and the edge of the cabinet door or drawer in order to avoid splitting the wood. Mark the location with a pencil.
-
2
Measure the distance of the mark on the first door or drawer from two sides and mark the remaining doors or drawers using those measurements to ensure that all the knobs will be placed in exactly the same location on the individual cabinetry.

3
Drill a hole in the cabinetry at your marked location with an electric drill. Use a drill bit the same size as the screws that came with your cabinet knobs in order to get a tight fit. Clamp a piece of scrap wood on the back of the cabinetry to avoid splintering, and drill the hole through the front facing of the cabinetry.
-
4
Place a knob screw through the drilled hole from the back of the cabinetry and tighten the knob to the screw until there is no slack. Be careful not to over-tighten or you can strip the knob. Repeat these steps until all cabinet knobs are installed.
