Battle for Middle Earth 2, EA's popular strategy game based in the Lord of the Rings universe, features detailed, varied campaign maps designed to evoke the land of Middle Earth. For fans of the game who want to create their own maps, BFME 2 also offers a flexible level editor called World Builder.
While there might not necessarily be a big tactical difference between a lush, detailed map and the same map with every tile looking exactly the same, creating a visually interesting map is half the fun of World Builder. Waterfalls are a perfect example of something you can use to help flesh out your map.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Battle for Middle Earth 2
  • BFME 2 World Builder
  1. Step 1

Open World Builder and either create a new map or open up an existing file. If the map doesn't already have a cliff, create one.

  2. Step 2

Select the River tool from the toolbar. Select a point on the higher level of terrain where you want the river to begin. Click and drag from that spot to the edge of the cliff. This will create a black line. Click the black line and pull it out to the left or right, which will create a rectangle of water. This will be the source of your waterfall.

  3. Step 3

Click the "Objects" icon on the toolbar and find the waterfall that you want to use. Waterfalls can be found under ByNativeType > Civilian > Misc_Natural. Most of the waterfalls are under "W," but the waterfalls for Rivendell are under "R."

  4. Step 4

Select the waterfall you'd like to use and place it on the cliff, right below the river you made earlier. Although waterfalls are technically objects, by connecting one to the source river you will create the illusion that the river and the waterfall are one object.

  5. Step 5

Select the River tool and create another water source at the bottom of the waterfall object. This can be a continuation of the river at the top of the cliff, or simply a small pool of water for the waterfall to empty into.

Tips & Warnings
  • The River tool will only create a plain, rectangular body of water. Create bends in the river by selecting the River tool and clicking on the blue lines around the river. This will create "joints" along the river that you can move as you see fit. Change other settings, such as water height and speed, by highlighting the river and opening its Options box.
