1
Fill a sink, bucket or bowl with warm water and add a few drops of soap. Dish detergent works well for cleaning soapstone surfaces, as it will help to cut through any potential stains that are stuck to the surface. Mix to be sure that suds form.
-
2
Wet a washcloth or sponge in the soapy water and use to scrub the surface of the soapstone. Do not use a steel wool pad or other harsh scrubbers, as you risk scratching the façade of the stone. Scrub until the stain is gone. Rinse the washcloth of suds and wipe away any excess soap remaining on the surface.

Use chemical paint stripper on a particularly tough stain. Apply a little bit of paint stripper with a towel or small paintbrush; allow a few minutes for the chemicals to work. Wipe away the paint stripper and the stain. If you use this method, be sure to clean the surface thoroughly afterward with regular soap and water to remove any remaining chemicals.
