Step 1
Decide how much insurance you need, so you can compare quotes for the same amount of coverage. If you have a motorcycle with a cheap blue book value, you may decide that comprehensive insurance, which covers theft or non-accident damage, isn't worth the price, since the company will only reimburse you the value of the motorcycle minus your deductible. If you don't take passengers, you can save money by not insuring them. Many people feel that they don't need medical payment insurance for themselves if they're already covered by health insurance. Choosing a higher deductible will also give you cheaper motorcycle insurance, if you don't mind paying more out of your pocket if you have a claim.

Step 2
Once you've decided what coverage you need, ask for quotes from a variety of insurance companies, both online and locally. If you already have auto, home-owners or renters insurance, be sure to ask for a quote from your current agent. Your current insurance agency may offer a discount when you add additional coverage.

Step 3
Select the cheapest motorcycle insurance quotes, but before actually purchasing insurance, ask what further discounts each company offers. You may be able to make some changes and qualify for even lower rates. The following things may give you additional discounts:
--Taking a safety course from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.
--Parking your motorcycle overnight in a garage rather than on the street
--Adding a security device to make your motorcycle harder to steal
--Having extra safety equipment on your motorcycle
--Riding your motorcycle fewer miles per year, or not depending on it to commute
--Not using your motorcycle in the winter, to qualify for a "lay up discount"
--Joining a motorcycle association -
Step 4
When you've found the cheapest motorcycle insurance quote, purchase insurance. But ask for quotes from other companies again before renewing. Rates change, and you may be able to find an even cheaper quote next year.
