In many cases, especially with newer computers, your display resolution may be greater than the default resolution that is set by the PC manufacturer. By setting a higher resolution you can effectively gain more desktop space on your PC. The trade off is that the items on your desktop will appear smaller which may make text difficult to read. This article will show you first, how to change the display resolution on your windows Vista PC. Next, it will show you how to change the text size so that if you do choose a higher resolution you will be able to still read the text on the screen.

  1. Step 1

First click the Start button then click Control Panel then click Appearance and Personalization and then select Personalization and then select Display Settings.

  2. Step 2

Now in Resolution, move the slider to the resolution you want (such as 1024x768), and then click Apply and then click Ok.

  3. Step 3

Next, restart the PC (not usually necessary depending upon the PC configuration) and the new resolution settings will display.

  4. Step 4

Now if the text is too small to read you can increase the size of the text by selecting the Start button then click Control Panel then click Appearance and Personalization and then select Personalize and then select Adjust Font Size in the upper left part of the window.

  5. Step 5

In the window that appears click Larger Scale then click Apply then Ok and then reboot the computer. After reboot the font size should be larger and easier to read while still having more space on the PC Desktop.
