Things You'll Need:
- Potatoes
- Milk or Cream
- Button
- A Pot
- Water
- Potato Masher or Fork
-
Step 1
Choose the potatoes you will be using. Red potatoes are very good for mashing. Around 5 or 6 medium potatoes should feed a family of 4 for one meal.
-
Step 2
Scrub the potatoes until they're clean, and remove any blemishes, and peel them if desired. You may also leave the peel on the potato if you'd like it in the mashed potatoes.
-
Step 3
Once the potatoes are cleaned, cut them into 1 inch blocks, and place them in a pot.
-
Step 4
Fill the pot with water so that it just covers the pieces of potato.
-
Step 5
Heat the water to boiling. Let it boil until the potatoes are soft enough that you can easily pierce them with a fork.
-
Step 6
Drain the water from the potatoes.
-
Step 7
Add 2 Tablespoons of butter and 2 Tablespoons of milk or cream to the potatoes. Using cream will make the potatoes especially creamy and delicious.
-
Step 8
Use a masher to mash the potatoes. If you don't have one, you can use a fork instead.
-
Step 9
If you'd like the potatoes to be a little creamier, you can add a little more milk.
-
Step 10
Serve the potatoes.
