Things You'll Need:
- Diatomataceous earth
- Brewer's yeast
- HEPA filter mask
- Non-latex gloves
-
Step 1
Prepare your pet for treatment by bathing it in Dawn or Joy dishwashing liquid; neither is harmful to the environment. Both are animal safe and will not only help rid your pet of fleas, but will also have your pet smelling great and give your pet a clean, shiny coat of fur.
-
Step 2
Next you will apply diatomataceous earth to your pet. This organic product is to be carefully powdered onto your pet and thoroughly rubbed in its hair. This substance is nonpoisonous, yet to be prudent you should always wear non-latex gloves and a HEPA filter mask. Also, carefully apply to avoid accidental inhalation by your pet. Some pet owners feed small amounts to their pets. Consult a veterinarian before modifying your pet's diet.

Step 3
Feed Brewer's yeast (also called nutritional yeast) as a supplement in your pet's diet. It is available at most health food stores. You can also apply brewer's yeast externally. Your veterinarian will be able to recommend the dosage for your pet, which is generally determined by the weight of your pet. Fleas seem to find Brewer's yeast unpalatable and are repulsed by animals with Brewer's yeast in their body and blood stream.
