Sport utility vehicles (SUVs) are light-truck vehicles that are similar in use and production value to station wagons. Most aren't equipped with third-row seats, but with a few easy adjustments, your SUV can have its capacity increased to accommodate several extra passengers. The basic seats usually are available in non-factory material. However, you can match the fabric to the one currently displayed in your vehicle. Installing a third seat is a great idea, but it will decrease your luggage capacity a bit. But the third seat will closely match your factory seats.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Socket wrench
  • Knife

    Installation Instructions

  1. Step 1

Open the hatch at the back of the vehicle. Carefully take out the carpet mat from the SUV. You won't need to carve the carpet from the bottom of the SUV, but keep it mind that all carpet material should be fully removed. No patches should remain after the process is complete. At this point the carpet should glide below the side trim panel. The bottom section of the trim panel must be pulled firmly to remove the carpet from the vehicle.

  2. Step 2

Get rid of the floor lining. Locate the bare steel. Next, find the third-row seat factory mounting points, which should now be visible. Grate the perimeter of the square clip. This will break up the adhesive and cause it to fall away. Now carefully take off and remove the clip. Keep in mind that each mounting point is covered by clips that are secured to the floor lining with adhesive material. This must be removed before beginning the next step.

  3. Step 3

Fasten the mounting brackets using the socket wrench. Take care in placing the carpet and liner over the area reserved for cargo. Now use your knife to slice an opening in the carpet. This should be completed around each of the mounting brackets.

  4. Step 4

Make the third-row seat easier to lift by folding it down. It will now be much easier to set up the new seat onto mounting brackets. The seat brackets will lock automatically whenever the seat is mounted by a passenger.
