How to Install Seals for a Hayward Pump
Hayward is well-known for building high-quality pool products for construction, as well as retail sales. According to Wet Head Media, the most popular line of Hayward pool pumps is the Hayward Super Pump. Pool pumps are used on a daily basis, typically running for many contiguous hours at a time. Disconnect the pump from its power source and completely drain it of any remaining water. There are two drain plugs, one located on the front of the pump and one on the side.

Remove the four bolts connecting the pump housing to the motor bracket. At this point, the impeller will be exposed.

Remove the back motor cover to gain access to the motor shaft.

While holding the motor shaft with your pliers, turn the impeller counterclockwise by hand until it comes off the motor shaft.

Using your hand, remove the seal spring from the impeller.

Using your finger, remove the ceramic seat and black rubber washer from the seal housing.

Lightly coat the new rubber washer with silicone and replace it and the ceramic seat in the seal housing.

Slide the new seal spring onto the impeller.

Screw the impeller back onto the motor shaft.

Replace the back motor cover.

Reconnect the pump housing to the motor bracket by replacing the four bolts you removed in Step 2.

Replace the drain plugs.

Reconnect the pump to the power source.

Using a garden hose or a bucket of water, fill the basket area with water to prime the pump.

Turn on the pump.

Tips & Warnings
Be certain to set old parts to the side to ensure that you do not mistakenly reuse them.
Never start your pump until you have first primed it.
